Circuit Design Group

The design, CAD, and testing of mixed analog digital circuits and systems with the emphasis on telecommunication applications are the research focuses of the group. Guided by Prof. Shyh-Jye Jou, Huan-Kai Chiou, Tsung-Han Tsai, Chien-Nan Liu and Jin-Fu Li Mixed Signal Circuit Design, Mixed Signal Circuit Testing, VLSI Design, and Programmable DSP labs are successively established. These labs nurture many research projects. The long term joined projects include a digital CATV transiever design project, a xDSL transiever design project, a DMT ADSL demodulation architecture design project, an ATE vernier circuit design project, and a high speed optical tranceiver circuit design project. All of them are in collaboration with varies industrial partners. In addition, many short term projects are tailored to fit the expertise of each faulty. There are, just name a few, ground bounce avoidance techniques, USB-II tranceiver circuit design, built-in IC parametric metrology, on-chip ADC/DAC based mixed signal testing, digital filter design and VLSI implementation, RS error control codec, high speed frequency syntehsizer, and GHz phase locked loop.

Solid State Group
The Institute of Photo-Electronic is the second program established in the related field in Taiwan. The solid-state semiconductor group closely cooperates with the university. Its focuses are Amorphous related photoelectronic devices, Device simulation, III-V compounds semiconductor materials, related photoelectronic, high-speed devices, and Microwave integrated circuits etc.

In the leading of Prof. Jyh-Wong Hong, Yao-Tsung Tsai, Jen-Inn Chyi, Yi-Jen Chan, Yao-Tsung Tsai, Pei-Wen Li and Yue-ming Hsin the solid-state semiconductor group has been well established. The Molecule Beam Epitaxy Lab, the Solid-State Device Production Lab, the Photoelectric Measurement Lab, the DC and Microwave Characteristic Measurement Lab, and the Microwave Circuits Lab have been finely developed, and the performance of the group is extremely outstanding.

In the research of amorphous materials, the group has the best amorphous Light-Emitted-Diode (LED) of the world and the variable color diode of international level. Besides, the 0.1 micron microwave device, developed cooperatively with the communication group, is the transistor with the highest frequency, up to 100 GH, in Taiwan. Developing the Amorphous Simulation Software, the Photo-Detector, the Thin Film Transistor (TFT), and the Integrated Photoelectric technology IC is now being headed to get key devices to promote industrial circles of thecountry.

System Group
To combine the production of high efficient electronic circuits with the research of advanced control theorems, the group aims to develop precise electrical control and concentrates on the integration of theory and practice.

In theory investigation, the group is now devoted to testing the robust control and the variable structure control theory. In the field of the practice, the group is working to proof the fuzzy theory and the resembling nerve control, combining with the computer for the precise orientation control and speech discrimination.

Under the efforts of Prof. Shih-Ching Ou, Yau-Tarng Juang, Hung-Yuan Chung, Wen-June Wang, Kuo-Kai Shyu, Jang-Zern Tsai , and Jing-Jye Lin, the group has established Electric Machine Control Lab, Electrical Power and Control System Lab, and Server System Control Lab. In the control system theorem, the electric machine control, precise movement control, electric power and electronic control of motor driver, and speech recognition have been performed greatly. In the future, the group is going to not only commercialize present researches but also combine the implementation of the control theory to offer people a more convenient and comfortable life.
